Surf is the face height at the beach after the swell is filtered for the way Freshwater West faces. Arrows show where the swell and wind are heading. Tide is the height at Milford Haven above chart datum, rising ↑ or falling ↓; the rating drops when the tide is outside the window this break works on. Amber marks the sessions worth setting an alarm for. From Wednesday the swell comes from Météo-France's 10-day model, which is coarser than the 5 km German model used close in. Hours no model reaches are left blank, not shown as flat.

Exposure

Freshwater West faces south-west. Swell inside the lit window reaches the beach; anything from behind the headlands scores nothing, however big the buoy says it is.

How Freshwater West works

Swell
Best from the south west.
Wind
East is offshore.
Tide
all tides.
Getting there
Once in Pembroke, follow the road west for about 10 miles passing a power station for about 10 miles.Closer you get,it will become sign posted.

A series or reefs link the two bays together, with particularly good sandbars in the summer months at the extrems of the tides. The southernmost beach is M.O.D and firing times are indicated by the red flags. The best waves tend to break on the jagged rocks to the south end of the beach, giving good hollow rides of up to 100mtrs+ in length.
